This is an A-MAZ-ING leopard-printed suede 1960s coat with fur trim at collar, cuffs and hem. The tan suede is very supple and fairly lightweight, possibly deerskin, rather than cow suede. It is printed all over with the “rosettes” of a stylized leopard print, in darker tan and brown. The gigantic, furry shawl collar frames the face, and reminds me of a 1920s-style cocoon coat—which make sense, since 1960s fashion often used the 1920s for inspiration. The coat has a fairly straight silhouette, with 2 horizontal seams, one just above the natural waist and one just below the hips. Between the 2 horizontal seams are 2 vertical slit pockets with decorative, horizontal pocket flaps. The coat sleeves are long and straight, with deep fur cuffs. Another band of fur trim encircles the coat’s hem. I am not entirely sure what kind of fur it is. It is definitely real fur, and fairly lightweight, fluffy and soft. It may be beaver, but I am certainly not a fur expert! The faux-double-breasted coat has one functional set of black leather buttons, plus a second set which is purely decorative--as are the 2 top buttons, mostly hidden under the collar. All of the buttons are covered in black leather, and 2 of them are dented and scratched on their surface. However, being plain black leather, they would be relatively easy to replace, if you liked. The coat is fully lined in black acetate satin. This over-the-top fabulous 1960s fur and leather coat is in very good condition, with several minor issues. There is some slight pilling to the surface of the suede on the underside of the sleeves and the sides of the waist, where they have rubbed against each other during normal wear. The inner edge of the fur collar is a bit lighter in color and slightly drier than the rest of the fur, probably from perfume or hairspray transferring to it when worn—it does not appear to be shedding, and the fur is otherwise in great condition. The scratched buttons are mentioned, above. Lastly, there is one very faint flaw to the suede on the outer side of the right sleeve (see photo). I believe that this a flaw in the original skin used (very common to deerskin), and not subsequent damage to the garment. The coat should fit approximately a modern size XS to S. It fits fairly well on me (a size 6P), over a sweater, but is a bit too long in the sleeves and the waist. Please see the measurements for details about sizing. You may want to compare the measurements to another coat that fits you well.
