Lightweight lilac cotton is embellished with rows of scalloped trapunto trim on this full-skirted 1950s day dress. The trim on the bodice follows the sweetheart shape of the neckline, in front only. The nearly circular, extra-full skirt has rows of trapunto trim all the way around, from high hip to a few inches above the hem. The cap sleeves follow the scallop-shaped theme, meeting the shoulders with a curved tuck. The bust darts in the bodice are carefully done, so that the trapunto trim doesn’t zigzag too much—a nice detail! The dress has thread belt loops, but the original belt is missing (it would look great with a wide belt to cinch the waist, we think). Otherwise, this classic 1950s cotton dress is in excellent condition, with no issues to note. The lightweight cotton fabric is unlined, and the dress fastens with a metal side seam zipper. It is shown here with a very full crinoline underneath, which is not included, but it could certainly be worn without one. In very bright light, the fabric appears slightly lighter than shown in some of our photos--see the label close-up photo.
