This tomato red wool gabardine 1940s skirt suit will brighten the gloomiest day! The hip length jacket features large, squared shoulder pads and cuffed, long sleeves, Darts at the waist and vertical seams provide shaping. The small, functional pockets at each hip are echoed by decorative “pocket flaps” at the front of the shoulders. The jacket fastens in front with self-fabric covered buttons, and it is lined in matching, bright red rayon crepe. The straight skirt has a fitted waistband with a button and a side seam, metal zipper. It is unlined. A small side slit in the hem at each side seam makes walking easier. The skirt had been hemmed up several inches; we have restored it to its original length. In very good condition, this classic 1940s skirt suit has one tiny, dark mark on the front of the left sleeve, and a number written on the maker’s label, both shown in our close-up photos. The bright red gabardine fabric is quite dramatic; it looks and feels lovely!
