Made of midnight blue rayon velveteen, this dreamy 1950s sport jacket (or smoking jacket) has “shawl collar” style lapels and a single, blue velvet-covered button closure. The jacket has 4 pockets: one outer chest pocket, 2 welted pockets at the hips, and one inner pocket in the blue rayon satin lining, at the right side chest. The shoulders are shaped by fairly large shoulder pads and the straight hem has no vents. The fit is somewhat boxy, as would have been popular in the early to mid-1950s. Originally purchased at Harrods in London, the jacket has a dandyish, semi-formal style—perfect for holiday parties or other events. It is in very good condition, this swanky 1950s velvet jacket is missing one decorative sleeve button, has one small mark in the velvet on the same (right) sleeve, and also some wear to the surface pile of the velvet at both elbows.
