Mocha 1950s clutch coat lightweight linen texture | M

1950s Clothing

The swingy, unstructured shape of this lightweight 1950s clutch coat or long jacket will pair well with a fitted under-layer: a slim pant or skirt with a sleeveless top or turtleneck, (depending on the season), or toss it on over your favorite sheath dress. The mocha fabric is a textured weave of rayon and acetate that looks similar to linen. Mid-century details include the rounded, shawl collar and elbow-length sleeves with wide cuffs, along with medium-sized shoulder pads. Vertical darts from the top of the shoulders to the bust provide subtle shaping in the upper bodice. Otherwise, the coat has a loose fit, gently flared from bust to hem, with no fastenings. It is unlined, and is a versatile weight perfect for spring and fall--or all-year-round in a warmer climate. The original owner removed its only label, but the coat appears unworn, in near excellent condition, with one very faint mark on the right sleeve cuff (see photo), from its long storage
