Label: Mr. Mort
Produced by “Mr. Mort” in the early 1960s, when the line was being designed by Stan Herman, this early 1960s full-skirted party dress in black silk chiffon is ultra-feminine and lovely! A classic mid-century cocktail dress, it combines a boned, fitted, sleeveless bodice with a full, gathered skirt. The softly gathered shoulder straps echo the gathers in the skirt, and the neckline is a darling sweetheart shape! The center front of the waist seam comes to a point, and the center front of the skirt is the only section that is not gathered—a very flattering design! The dress has boning in each bodice side seam, is lined in black rayon taffeta, and fastens in back with a metal zipper, beneath the low back neckline. Overall, the shape of the dress reminds us of a traditional dirndl style—very popular at the time. In very good to excellent condition, the dress had one tiny hole at the top of one vertical bust dart, which has subsequently been repaired by us. It also has a few, very tiny pulls in the surface of silk chiffon fabric, which should not be at all noticeable when it is worn. This well made, mid-century party dress is a timeless style, perfect for your next event!
