A large-scale burgundy and navy blue latticework pattern is woven into the lustrous silk and wool blend fabric of this 1960s evening coat. Called “Alaskine”, this beautiful fabric has a subtle sheen to its surface, and is medium weight. The boxy-fit, cocoon-shaped coat has unstructured shoulders with diagonal seams in front only, straight, three-quarter-length sleeves, and notched lapels. Darts from the shoulder to the bust gently shape the upper bodice, while the lower section of the coat is designed for a loose fit. Silver metal filigree buttons close the coat in front. The coat is lined with rayon taffeta fabric that has faded at the hem with age: this is not seen when the coat is worn. This 1960s alaskine brocade coat is quite well made—notice the perfectly patterned-matched fabric at the center back seam! It is in very good condition, with the faded lining the only issue to note.

The coat is smallest across the shoulders and bust, as is often the case with 1960s coats and jackets. It fits just a bit loosely on me (size 6 petite). I estimate that it will fit well for approximately a modern size 6 to 8, but please check the measurements for more details about fit.
