This “New Look” early 1950s wide brim hat in rich black rayon velvet has a curved, saucer-shaped, wire brim that tilts up into a small point at the center back. The crown is tiny and flat, and perches on the top of the head; it is too shallow to do more than just rest on top. A layer of velvet folded over it conceals the metal wire in the outer edge of the hat’s brim. Because it is wired, the shape of the brim can be adjusted somewhat—we have left it the way that is came to us, with a point in the back. The hat has wide metal loops underneath the crown on each side, to help hold it in place when worn. Each of these loops shows some wear to the fabric at its tip, from normal use, which should not be seen when worn. The bright red faille fabric crown lining has a small crease across its center, which is just slightly visible on the outer side of the flat crown. This dramatic, 1950s platter hat is in very good condition, with no other flaws to note.
** Because this hat has a dimension of larger than 12" (width across brim), it will require an oversized shipping box--and consequently an increased shipping fee from USPS. Please bear this in mind when thinking about shipping costs. Feel free to contact us with any shipping rate questions! **
