This 1940s tilt hat is fit for a film noir heroine! The oval pillbox-shaped crown in stone (greyish-ivory) fur felt features appliquéd strips of the same felt fabric, that create stripes around it. A jaunty bow and tassel trims its left side, and the hat is “topped off” by an elegant, chin-length, polka-dotted veil in deepest black. The oval crown is designed to sit a bit forward on the head when worn, as shown, and could be tilted even more forward, if preferred. The delicate veiling is attached to the top of the flat crown, almost all the way around the hat. The veiling has a few small breaks in it, as shown in our photos. The inner grosgrain band (only visible inside the hat) has some discoloration in front, possibly from makeup, and some holes in it at the back, where a hatpin has been used in the past. In very good condition, this 1940s hat is an unusual, neutral color, and the full-face veil, although not perfect, is perfectly glamorous!
