This sleeveless pink linen late 1940s-early 1950s dress straddles the line between a “fancy” day dress, and a more casual, summery dress for evening. Call it the perfect dress for a garden party, or a less-formal summer wedding! The unlined, crisp pink linen is embellished with loops of off-white soutache braid and mother-of-pearl discs on the sweetheart neckline, tiny cap sleeves (or wide straps) and the half-circular pocket flaps. The softly fitted bodice is shaped with darts at the bust. The center back seam has been taken in at the back of the neck, to narrow the fit at the shoulders (see inside of the neckline photo). This alteration could be easily removed, if a wider fit at the shoulders is preferred. The skirt is gently flared from waist to hem. It was taken up at one time by the original owner, but we have the let the skirt back down to its original length. This has left very faint creases in the linen, that did not entirely disappear when we steamed the skirt hem—perhaps ironing would improve them somewhat. A metal zipper fastens the dress at the left side seam. The only other issues to note are 2 very faint marks at the front hem, and one small mark near the left pocket (see close-up photos). This authentic vintage, late 1940s or early 1950s dress is in very good condition, and the soutache trim is lovely!
