This geranium, or pinkish-red silk cocktail dress from the early 1960s by Nathan-Strong has a full skirt with wide box pleats and a large front bow. The boatneck bodice is fitted with vertical darts. It has narrow, elbow-length sleeves, and a slightly dropped waist seam. An attached, single-layered tulle crinoline adds some fullness to the shape of the skirt. The silk surah fabric (diagonal weave, like silk neckties) has a slight sheen to it, and is a medium-weight. It is lined with silk chiffon—a lovely, nice quality detail! The dress fastens with a back metal zipper, plus several tiny hooks and eyes. In very good condition the dress has one faint, dark mark on the back of the right shoulder, which should be quite difficult to notice when it is worn (see close-up photo). Although the dress has a slightly dropped waist seam, the natural waist is actually rather high (see measurements)—and the original owner of this dress was relatively short in stature—it will fit best on a petite-sized person, in modern sizing. This vibrantly colored, beautifully made 1960s dress is ready to “shake things up” at your next mid-century cocktail party, or evening event!
