This purple plaid, lightweight cotton late 1940s day dress or housedress has an easy-on, zip front. The dress features a long, pointed collar above the V-neckline, cap sleeves with shoulder pads, a fitted waist seam, and a section of shirred gathers at each side of the front the skirt, just below the waist. The skirt is moderately full—definitely post-war 1940s, but not as full as a “New Look” style would be. The plaid cotton fabric combines lavender and emerald green with a vibrant, deep purple. It is unlined. The self-fabric sash can be used to cinch the waist, as shown. A nice detail: the plaid fabric is turned on the bias (diagonal) on the bodice section of the dress, while the skirt uses it horizontally, creating visual interest. This true vintage late 1940s zip-front day dress is in excellent condition, with no issues to note.
