This leaf green late 1970s shirtdress by Ralph Lauren features a white-embroidered version of the Polo emblem, a tiny polo player, on the right sleeve cuff. The white Polo emblem matches the white plastic buttons that fasten the dress from the long, pointed collar to the hem. The dress has several style elements adapted from a traditional trench coat: the button-trimmed epaulets on top of each shoulder, the curved “rifle panel” at the top right of the bodice, and a scalloped “storm flap” over the back of the shoulders. Buttoned flaps at each hip hide the two welt pockets. The long sleeves are slightly puffed/gathered, where they meet the fitted cuffs. Cut like a traditional shirtdress, it is designed to have a loose, easy fit, with a relatively straight shape from bust to hem. (Ask us about the white leather belt—we’d be happy to include it with your purchase!) The perfectly preppy, bright green fabric is a medium-weight cotton and polyester blend with a crisp feel, appropriate for all but the hottest of summer days. In very good condition, the dress has one faint mark on the skirt, and a few scattered, pinhole-sized spots on the back shoulder panel. This authentic vintage, early Ralph Lauren dress is the ultimate in preppy style, in a timeless silhouette that is as versatile as it is comfy to wear!
