This belted, safari style jacket or tunic-length blouse from the 1960s by Rudi Gernreich is made of hot pink silk shantung fabric that is so bright, that our camera had a difficult time capturing it! The lightweight silk fabric has a slightly slubbed texture, and an iridescent shine when the light hits it. Reaching to about mid-thigh in length, the jacket or top has the classic elements of a safari jacket: multiple patch pockets with button-closed flaps, epaulets on each shoulder, and a wide, removable belt. The belt, epaulets, pocket flaps and the front opening of the jacket all fasten with bright gold metal, military-style buttons, embossed with an eagle design. The straight sleeves are bracelet-length on our tall mannequin, and will be full length on a shorter person (see measurements). The silk fabric is unlined. The jacket should have a somewhat loose fit when worn, as shown in our photos. The hip measurement is just about one inch smaller than the bust measurement—see measurements for more details. This fab 1960s piece by the iconic designer Rudi Gernreich is in excellent condition.
The jacket or top shown originally came with a long, straight maxi skirt, which has some water damage/dye bleed along its hem. We will include the skirt with the purchase of the jacket, in case you’d like to use the extra fabric—or perhaps shorten it into a mini skirt to wear with the top.
