The lush black rayon velvet of this early 1970s dress is trimmed with a cream-colored acetate satin ruffle around its scooped neckline. The three-quarter-length sleeves are slightly puffed at the shoulders and gathered into 3 tiers, the widest forming the ruffled hems. The waist seam comes to a center-front point and an attached sash cinches the back of the waist. This high waist seam is above the standard natural waist by a few inches (see measurements). The flared skirt is above-the-knee length on our tall mannequin, but will be closer to knee-length on a shorter person. The backing of the soft velvet pile is rayon taffeta. The dress is unlined except for some rayon faille interfacing around the neckline, which has faded a bit from age—not seen when worn. In very good condition, this youthful and sweet 70s velvet dress also has some scattered crush marks in the surface of the velvet where it has been flattened, but no other issue to note.
