Description
This sheer blue late 1940s or early 1950s dress has a print that I would describe as a fireworks floral. The very lightweight rayon or rayon-blend organza fabric has also been used to make the scalloped loops trimming the square neckline, short sleeves and button-front bodice opening. Small gathers at the sides of the sleeves are echoed by the gathers from the front of the shoulders, along the sides of the neckline. The flat waist panel comes to 2 points in front, above the seams in the slightly flaring skirt. The 3 functional buttons have sparkling rhinestones set in brown celluloid, around a self-fabric center—they are really lovely! The dress closes with a metal zipper in the side seam, along with the front buttons. In good, totally wearable condition, this late 1940s to early 50s day dress has a few issues to note: A bit of seam stress to the stitches on the right side of the front waist, 1 small and 1 tiny mend in the skirt, and some yellowing to the fabric of the matching belt (see photos). It has been carefully laundered and appears quite sturdy, other than the pulled section of the waist seam that could stand to be reinforced. I estimate that it will fit a modern size large, but please check the measurements for more detailed size information.
