Label: Supernatural Genuine Panama by the Ecuadorian Panama Hat Co. of New York
This circa 1930s “Genuine Panama by the Ecuadorian Panama Hat Co. of New York” has the “Supernatural” stamp on its inner leather band. The toquilla palm straw is finely woven and very lightweight. The hat has a tall, homburg-style crown with a single center or “gutter” crease, and a curled or rolled brim. A wide black grosgrain hatband with a flat bow trims the crown. The leather inner hatband is stamped with a style name, (“Southampton”), the maker’s name (as noted above), and also the store name where it was purchased (the much-missed Chicago department store Marshall Field and Company). The paper size tag is still present, to tell us that it is a size 7 1/8 Long Oval. In very good condition, this true vintage 1930s Panama hat has some minor darkening to the straw from normal wear and handling, but no other issues to note.
