LABEL: Suzy Perette
This Suzy Perette 1950s halter dress and bolero jacket is made of an unusual fabric: a fabulous, nubby rust-brown and black wool knit which is lightweight and semi-sheer. The halter dress has a fitted bodice and a full skirt, which is gathered into rows of stitching that define the waist area. The dress fastens with a metal side zipper and is lined with black rayon taffeta. It has quite large belt loops and would look great worn with an extra-wide black velvet or black patent belt. The cropped bolero jacket is shorter in the front than in the back and is accented with contrasting black velvet-covered buttons and a velvet collar. It has bracelet-length, dolman sleeves and it is unlined, making it appear more sheer than the dress, as you can see best in our back view photo. In very good condition, the dress fabric shows some fuzziness/wear to the surface of the knit, which is pretty well hidden by the overall texture. The nubby texture also helps to hide several tiny mends in the jacket under the right arm—see our before- and after-mending photos. The semi-sheer knit has a bit of give to it, except in the waist area, where the rows of stitching do not allow for any stretch.
The dress is shown here with a crinoline underneath, which is not included, although we do sell retro crinolines in two lengths and several colors—just ask us! 1950s Suzy Perette dresses were often copies of high-end Paris designer creations, such as Dior’s New Look styles. This dress is a rather unique find, in that we have not encountered another Suzy Perette dress in a wool knit fabric. Great for fall and winter!
