This home-made, black wool felt and curly lamb 1940s tilt hat is the perfect 40s hat to travel with—it is completely flat, not fragile, and will be easy to pack! The flat crown has a braided felt outer edge, with its rounded-square center made up of half curly lamb and half concentric quarter-circles of felt. A large flat bow trims the back of the hat. I suspect that this rather bizarre hat has been recycled from another hat project by its original owner, based on the way it looks from the underside: it is cut and then folded underneath itself, rather oddly--perhaps a war-time “make-do and mend” kind of thing. However, when worn, it has a jaunty air and appears in excellent condition; it’s just weird from underneath! It will need hatpins of bobby pins to secure it--or you could attach a narrow elastic band to fit around the back of the head, to counter-balance the forward tilt of the hat.
