Description
This novelty print 1950s or early 1960s cotton day dress features a patchwork pattern of avocado green, china blue, and white rectangles. The Saul-Steinberg-style print combines a variety of antique gentlemen and ladies with pretty abstract designs. Riding horses, traveling in carriages, playing instruments, and generally looking fancy, the circa Tudor- to Georgian-style folks on this sweet mid-century vintage dress look like they are having fun! The sleeveless bodice has a high neckline with a round collar panel. Diagonal darts shape the bust. Below the fitted waist seam, the skirt has inverted pleats to add fullness to its shape. The lightweight, plain weave cotton fabric is unlined. The dress fastens with a metal zipper in back. In very good condition, the dress has some slight wear to the fabric at the very edge of the high neck opening, but no other issues to note. Dating from the late 1950s or early 1960s, this true vintage novelty print dress by Mode O’ Day must have once had a matching jacket (according to the fiber content tag), and a self-fabric belt, which are no longer present. It is perfectly wearable without, though!
