Description
This late 1950s or early 1960s 2-piece Hawaiian dress set features a fitted sleeveless blouse and full-length pleated skirt, both in bright turquoise cotton sateen with a fabulous hibiscus floral border print in blue-violet, moss green, and fuchsia pink. The border print fabric has been used in a typical way for the skirt, with is bold floral reaching upwards from the hem. For the top however, the print has been turned sideways to put the hibiscus flowers down the center front—a nice detail! The scoopneck blouse has an hourglass shape, with darts and seaming shaping the bust and waist. It ends in a straight hem at the high hip, hidden when it is worn tucked into the skirt. Buttons close the top in back. The skirt has a fitted waistband with small pleats below, adding fullness from hips to hem. The skirt fastens with a metal zipper at the side seam and a button at the waistband. Both pieces of the set are unlined, made of soft, lustrous 100-percent cotton. In very good condition, the only issue to note with the set is the presence of 2 tiny spots on the skirt—possibly from it being pinned to a hanger during its long storage. See close-up photos: 1 at the center front of the waistband and 1 just behind the zipper at the upper back left. This blue and pink tropical floral border print 1950s-60s Hawaiian set has been freshly dry-cleaned to maintain its bright colors, although being cotton, it could also be carefully hand-washed.
