Description
A black-on-black, floral-beaded cardigan, this 1950s-60s sweater is made of a soft lambswool and angora blend—lightweight enough for all but the warmest summer days. The lavish floral beadwork is done with shiny black glass seed and tube beads, and slightly larger, black-painted round beads forming the center of each flower. Round black bead buttons fasten the cardigan down the front, except for the top, flower-shaped button, which is an era-appropriate replacement (by me). The sweater has ribbed knit trim finishing the crew neckline, bracelet-length sleeve cuffs, and its low-waist- or high-hip-length hem. The body of the sweater is lined with lightweight black silk; the sleeves are unlined.
This true vintage, late 1950s or early 1960s cardigan has an overall slightly boxy shape, intended to fit a bit loosely through the waist. It is in very good condition, freshly dry-cleaned, with 1 bead in the center of 1 flower with its black coating beginning to peel a bit, and the previously-mentioned replacement button. It is labeled a vintage size 36, and should fit approximately a modern small to medium (see measurements). The intricate beadwork is all intact, and lovely!
