Description

This hourglass-fit, black wool gabardine skirt suit dates from the early 1950s. Black rayon satin piping trims the upper section of the narrow, notched lapels, and accents the edges of the lovely, tulip-shaped hip pockets. The jacket has square, padded shoulders above gently tapered, bracelet-length sleeves. Darts and curved seaming shape the fitted waist, above the rounded hips. The jacket has 2 faceted black glass buttons at the the waist, one functional and one decorative, along with an inner button. The matching pencil skirt has a side seam metal zipper and hooks at the relatively wide waistband. It has a back kick pleat at the hem, and is unlined. The jacket is fully lined in silver rayon satin which has discolored significantly, but is not seen when the suit is worn. Otherwise, the suit looks great! Freshly dry-cleaned (no odors) and ready to wear, this early 1950s New Look era skirt suit is made of nice quality, true black wool gabardine. I love the tulip pockets—a unique detail!
