Description
This versatile late 1950s or early 60s dress and jacket set in rich blue and black silk brocade can go from office wear to cocktails and dinner or a semi-formal evening event with ease! The classic mid-century hourglass fit dress features a fitted, cap-sleeved bodice with self-fabric appliqué trim around its wide V neckline and over its waist seam. The unique skirt style is narrow through the hips, but slightly flared from hips to hem, with an extra wide, flat pleat at the center back—like a modified fishtail hem. The waist its very slightly high at the front, and curves lower in back. The dress fastens with a center-back metal zipper, and is lined at the bodice section only with lightweight black silk.
The matching waist-length jacket is designed to fit a bit loosely over the more fitted dress underneath. It has a lovely pleated appliqué trompe l’oeil “collar”, ¾-length straight sleeves, and a gently nipped-in waist. The jacket closes with covered buttons and is lined with the same black silk as the upper part of the dress. Both the pieces of this 1950s-60s silk cocktail dress set by Dan Millstein are in excellent condition, freshly dry-cleaned and ready to wear.
