Description
This full-skirted 1950s cocktail dress and matching bolero jacket set is constructed of iridescent blue-green taffeta, trimmed with tiny metal studs and rhinestones on a curved pleat designed to emphasize the bust. The dress features wide straps, a notched square neckline, and princess seaming from underbust seam to hem, shaping the fitted waist and flaring skirt. It is shown here with an added crinoline underneath, which is not included. A metal zipper fastens the dress at center back. The fitted, cropped jacket ends at about the height of the underbust pleat, with 3 covered buttons in front, a portrait collar, and ¾-length sleeves. The crisp, rustling rayon taffeta fabric of both pieces is unlined. My last photo shows the dress unclipped from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size. Freshly dry-cleaned and in good, sturdy and wearable condition, the dress has a few issues to note:
- Faint marks at the underarms of the dress.
- Some pulling along the sides of the zipper at the back waist.
- Stitching marks in the fabric where the bust and waist had been taken in, and since been let out.
- 2 missing, tiny metal studs at each side seam, where the dress had once been taken in.

DRESS.
- Bust: 38 inches flat with a bit of extra room at cups, to fit approximately 37-38. 32D, 34C, or 36B, I’d estimate.
- Underbust seam: 32 inches flat.
- Waist: 30s inches flat, to fit up to 29.
- Hip: full (approx. 52 inches flat).
- Length: 45 inches from shoulder to hem in front.
- Underarm to waist: approx. 8 inches (no waist seam).
- Underarm to underbust seam: 4 inches.
- Waist to hem: 29 inches.
JACKET.
- Length: 12 inches from back of neck to hem.
- Sleeve: 14 inches.
- Width at hem: 32 inches.
