Description

This 1950s belted blue tweed skirt suit combines shades of dark navy and royal blue with periwinkle and lilac in a nubby plaid pattern. The blue tweed fabric is quite soft to the touch--not at all itchy. I’d guess that it is a blend of rayon and acetate, or possibly silk, which should be lightweight enough for 3-season wear. The boxy-fit jacket has a narrow sash belt to cinch the waist as much as you like. It has 2 large patch pockets with flaps on the chest, plus 2 small slit pockets just above the hem at each side. Small shoulder pads create a bit of shaping above the bracelet-length, straight sleeves. The jacket fastens in front with mauve plastic and metal buttons. Its narrow belt threads through small belt loops. The lower portion of the jacket is unstructured, to allow it fall into soft folds when belted. The matching pencil skirt closes with a side seam nylon zipper and a large hook and eye at the narrow waistband. Both pieces of the suit are fully lined with mauve (formerly purple) rayon crepe which has faded with age, as purple rayon from this era is wont to do. This true vintage 1950s skirt suit is in very good condition, excellent aside from the faded lining fabric. It has been freshly dry-cleaned and is perfectly ready to wear!
