Description
This beaded 1920s evening bag features fabulous strands of twisted fringe along its sides, as well as the more typical looped fringe along its lower edge. The small glass beads are a bright tomato red, hand-sewn onto a mesh base and attached to a brass-colored metal frame with a kiss clasp and dainty chain strap. This flapper-style, true vintage evening purse from the Art Deco era would have been lined, probably with silk, but the lining has been removed by the previous owner. It could be replaced fairly easily, if you are handy with a needle. The bag also has a few loose beads at the hinges of the frame, and a few of its many fringed strands are missing from the base. The antique beaded bag is in very good condition and appears quite sturdy for its age—approximately 100 years old. It would certainly be useable if the lining were replaced, or you could line it temporarily with a vintage handkerchief!
