Description
This beaded 1920s evening bag features an unusual, abstract design in bright pink and green, light blue, smoky gray, and palest seafoam green glass beads, plus blue and white looped fringe along its lower edge. The weird urban(?) scene depicted reminds me of early 20th Century Futurist art, and is outlined using lines of black beadwork. The body of the bag is attached to a brass-colored metal frame with leafy design and a kiss clasp and dainty chain strap. This flapper-style, true vintage evening purse from the Art Deco era was made in Belgium, as shown by the origin label sewn into the lightweight green silk lining. In very good condition, the bag has a few replacement stitches at the frame, a very few scattered loose beads, and several fringed strands are missing from the base. The antique beaded bag is in remarkable condition and appears quite sturdy for its age—approximately 100 years old. It is useable with reasonable care, although of course too small and delicate for carrying a smart phone. You’ll just have to leave it at home, or carry in your stocking top, like an authentic flapper!
