Description

A coral silk 1960s cheongsam style dress, this Asian-inspired beauty is made of light-as-a-feather, poppies floral jacquard silk. With its extra-high side slits from waist to hem, the dress or long tunic was probably intended for wear over a pant--but wear it without if you dare! It has the traditional knot buttons and several small snaps fastening it from high collar to waist on its left side. Darts shape the fitted bust and waist, while the side slits allow for a little bit of flexibility in the hip sizing.

This gorgeous orange-red silk dress originally had long sleeves that were damaged. My amazing seamstress was able to remove the sleeves and hand-sew the new arm openings—you can see what a nice job she did in my close-up photo! I will include the fabric from the original sleeves with your order, in case you’d like to use to create a matching accessory.

Freshly dry-cleaned and ready to wear, the dress has no issues to note. I estimate that it should fit a modern size XS to S—see detailed measurements below. My last photo shows the dress or tunic unpinned from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size.

Size: XS-S.

  • Bust: 36 inches flat to fit approx. 35-36. I’d estimate 32C or 34B maximum.
  • Waist: 27.5 inches flat to fit approx. 26.5 max.
  • Hip: 38 inches flat, to fit approx. 35-37, depending on width of side slit openings.
  • Length: 52 inches from back of neck to hem.
  • Underarm to waist: 7.5 inches to top of side slits.
  • Waist to hem: 36 inches.
  • Shoulder to shoulder: 14 inches across back.
  • Collar: 14 inches flat.
