Description
This cornflower blue dotted cotton 1950s blouse and circle skirt 2-piece set can be worn together to mimic a dress, or as separates for double the wardrobe options! The mid-weight cotton poplin is not technically “polka dotted”, since the off-white “dots” are actually hexagonal. From a distance though, they do look a lot like round dots! The cap sleeve blouse has a wide neckline and unusual crisscrossed seaming on its front, to help create its fitted shape. Below the blouse waist seam, it has a peplum-like hem, intended to tuck into the skirt when they are worn together. The blouse fastens with a metal side zipper; the gray shell buttons at the neckline are purely decorative. The circle skirt has a fitted waistband, and 6 sets of double inverted pleats to add maximum fullness to its shape (shown here with a large crinoline underneath, which is not included). The skirt closes with a metal side seam zipper and button at the waistband. A single hip pocket is hidden in the pleating, next to the zipper. Both pieces of the set are unlined.
In very good condition, the set has 2 small issues to note: a teeny tiny mend at the center front waist seam of the blouse and a slightly larger mend in the fabric of the peplum section, at the right front near the hem. Both of these small mends are hidden when the blouse is worn tucked into the skirt (see close-up photos). This adorable blue and off-white dot print 1950s circle skirt and blouse set will be perfect for spring and summer, since the cotton fabric is crisp and lightweight enough for even hot, sunny days! The American designer of this 1950s set, Toni Owen, was best known for creating separates, often fitted tops and full skirts like this one, that were coordinated to look like dresses.
