Description
This creamy off-white 1940s bridal dressing gown or robe is made of a beautiful rayon taffeta brocade fabric woven with Art Deco geometric patterns. The double-breasted bodice has notched lapels and 2 sets of buttons, one functional and one decorative. The three-quarter-length sleeves are subtly bell-shaped. The full-length skirt of the robe has 3 small pleats at each side of the front waist to add fullness to its shape. Straight across in front, the waist seam is a flattering basque shape in back, coming to a center point. The dressing gown unfastened in front from waist to hem, but with a generous overlap. The medium-weight taffeta brocade fabric is unlined. Freshly drycleaned and ready to wear, the robe is sturdy and in good condition, with some issues to note (see photos):
- 1 mend at the right sleeve hem.
- 1 tiny hole near right lapel.
- 1 tiny brownish spot on left sleeve.
- Some overall yellowing to the creamy fabric from age, and a subtle darkening to the fabric along its right side from storage.
This lovely late 1940s dressing gown was originally sold as a bridal item, but will be perfect for elegant lounging, any time!
