Description

This simply swellegant 1920s wedding dress with detachable train is made of luscious cream silk satin, with silk fringe trim at each hip. The medieval-inspired, rectangular train is quite lovely! Where it hangs from the shoulders, it is draped and folded over at the top. From this top edge of the folded-over section, a large, intricate tassel of braided and knotted fringe hangs at its center, adding visual interest to the bride’s back as she walks down the aisle.

The round-necked, sleeveless dress has the nearly straight tube shape typical of 1920s dresses in general, with small gathers at the low waist/high hip area, beginning just underneath the silk piping and knotted fringe trim. The dress also has tiny gathers at the lower ribcage on each side, for just a hint of shaping to the bodice. It fastens with hooks and snaps at the left side seam. At this side opening, the skirt is wrapped/overlapped slightly, to create a small drape from left hip to hem. The approximately calf-length hem of the dress has several weights sewn inside it. The dress is unlined, aside from a tiny panel of mesh inside the back of the neckline.

The removable, rectangular train panel is 80 inches in length from the shoulders, or about 64 inches from the waist (between chapel length and semi-cathedral length, or just over 5 feet from waist to hem). It is attached at the shoulders with 2 small hooks, and has a row of weights sewn into its hem.

In good, sturdy condition, wearable with reasonable care, this 100-year old, authentic 1920s wedding dress does have some issues to note. Almost all of them are unlikely to be noticed when this dramatic weeding dress is worn. See my many close-up photos, and this list:

  • Some yellowing at the edges of the underarms, more visible on the right side (no odors).
  • Some very faint marks on the front of the bodice, just below the neckline.
  • 4 teeny, tiny pinholes at the back left shoulder, hidden when the train is attached.
  • 1 mark on lower left side of skirt near draped section.
  • Various light marks on the underside of the train, most of which are faint. Most visible is shown in close ups.
  • 1small hole (burn mark?) on the train near the end/hem.
  • Some frizziness to the ends of the silk fringe trim.

The dress is quite small, I’d say a modern XXS to XS. It fits well on my mannequin, who has 33-inch bust and hips. I would estimate that this is the maximum size for best fit.

  • Bust: 34 inches flat, to fit 33 max (30B/32A).
  • Natural waist: 28 inches flat (intended for loose fit).
  • Low waist, at rows of piping above fringe trim: 30 inches flat.
  • Hip: 35 inches flat without pulling side drape, to fit 32-33 max.
  • Dress length: 46.5 inches form shoulder to hem in front.
  • Underarm to piping at low waist: 10.5 inches.
  • Shoulder to shoulder: 14 inches across back.
  • Train length: 80s inches from shoulders.
  • Train width: 17.75 inches.
