Description
This deadstock, tailored gray sharkskin dress from the early 1950s features a black velveteen collar and cuffs, and a stylish asymmetrical design! The bodice has medium-sized shoulder pads, three-quarter-length straight sleeves, and a curving front opening to the waist seam, fastened with black and silver plastic buttons. This curving line extends below the waist to the right hip pocket. The bodice buttons are all functional, while only the 2 outermost buttons on the pocket actually open. The curvy design adds visual interest to the otherwise simple lines of this versatile dress. It has darts to shape the bust, waist, and hips, and a kick pleat at the back skirt hem. The crisp, lightweight rayon and acetate fabric is a 2-tone weave of black and silver gray that reads like darker gray from a distance. (See close-up label photo for best view of fabric.) The dress closes at the side seam with a metal zipper and is unlined. The original hangtag and self-fabric belt are still present. My last photo shows the dress unpinned from the mannequin and unbelted, to give a better idea of its actual size and shape. In very condition, this true vintage early 1950s dress has one minor issue to note: a faint mark (possibly pen) on the left sleeve (see photo). It has been dry-cleaned for freshness, although it was never worn.
