Description
A fun and feminine Diane Freis dress from the early 1980s, this aqua and pink floral confection features a ruffle-trimmed, deep V surplice neckline and a 2-tiered peplum skirt. The semi-sheer, lightweight fabric is the designer’s preferred polyester georgette. It mixes 2 prints, both with a subtle striped weave. The majority of the dress uses a medium-scale print of roses. The double-ruffled sailor collar, the wide shirred elastic waist panel, and the hems of the 2 skirt layers are all accented with a small-scale green and aqua polka-dot-patterned fabric. The three-quarter-length puffed sleeves have small shoulder lifts (not full-on shoulder pads) and elastic cuffs. This sleeve elastic is somewhat over-stretched form age/use, but quite wearable as it is. The elastic in the waist shirring is still quite good. The wide belt in matching floral fabric can be layered over the elastic panel to further cinch the waist, as shown in some of my photos. Other than Diane Freis’s signature beaded and tasseled neck ties, the dress has no fastenings, designed to pull on over the head. In very good, near excellent condition, the only issue to note with this 80s boho beauty of a dress is the weak elastic at the sleeve hems.
