Description
This crisp rayon taffeta early 1950s dressing gown in iridescent fuchsia and lilac is a real stunner! Below the curved collar, the fitted bodice opens from neck to hem. It fastens to the waist with lucite and rhinestone buttons, and from waist to about knee height with self-fabric-covered buttons. A matching belt cinches the waist. The three-quarter-length bishop sleeves have elastic at their hems which has loosened from age, but still creates a gathered effect at the cuffs. The long skirt is fairly full, gathered at the waist seam, with 2 side seam pockets—hooray! It will sweep around you with a lovely rustling sound as you walk. The light weight taffeta fabric is unlined. In good condition, this elegant 1950s dressing gown or fancy robe has been freshly dry-cleaned and is sturdy and ready to wear. It has a number of minor flaws to note (see photos):
- 2 tiny pinholes and one faint mark near the right front hem.
- 1 other pinhole at the top of the left sleeve.
- 1 small scratch to the surface of the fabric near the left bust dart.
- A faint mark and pinhole below the last button in front.
- A flaw to the fabric surface on the back of the belt.
- The previously mentioned loose sleeve elastic.
Priced accordingly, this New Look style, bright raspberry pink 1950s dressing gown is still quite wearable, and presents very well.
