Description
This deadstock Jantzen 1950s crewneck sweater in a heather brown and taupe is made of their proprietary “Kharafleece”: a blend of lightweight worsted wool, nylon and Vicara--a protein fiber derived from corn, believe it or not! The style, called “Lucky” on the original hangtag, has a curvy hourglass shape with a wide, fitted, ribbed-knit waist. The short sleeve hems and round neckline are also finished with ribbed knit edges. The Jantzen hangtag describes the finely knit fiber as having a “cashmere-softness” and I can attest to that! It also alerts the buyer that it is “snugly ribbed to hug your waist”, in true vintage, sweater-girl fashion. The unlined pullover has no fastenings. Labeled a 1950s size 38, I would estimate it’s approximately a modern medium to large, depending on your preferred fit. My 4th photos shows a front view of the sweater unpinned from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size. Please see the measurements for more details about sizing. The fiber Vicara and its source (the plant protein “Zein”) was discontinued in 1958, giving us an approximate date for this pullover as from that year at the very latest. In excellent to mint condition, unworn, this deadstock vintage 1950s Jantzen sweater in a cool-toned heather brown and taupe would make a lovely gift.
