Description
This chic yet practical, late 1940s khaki wool gabardine women’s coat features large, square padded shoulders, a long, pointed collar, and big butterscotch lucite buttons. The coat’s silhouette flares out gradually from the squared shoulders to the hem. Vertical pleats from the top of the shoulders in front add fullness to the bust. The wide, full-length sleeves are permanently cuffed up, with matching, smaller buttons trimming the pointed overlap on the outside of the cuffs. 3 narrow inverted pleats shape the upper back of the coat—a neat detail! There are 2 large, double welted, vertical slit pockets at the hips. The coat is fully lined with peach rayon crepe, which very slightly faded with age. In very good condition, the coat has 1 small moth munch at the back left near the side seam, at about hip height, and 2 more tiny munches at the right shoulder. There is also 1 tiny flaw in the weave of the gabardine fabric on the right sleeve (see close-up photos). With no other issues to note, this true vintage late 1940s coat has been freshly drycleaned and is totally ready to wear. I believe it will best fit approximately a modern S-M, but please see the measurements for more details about size. The coat is most fitted at the bust and shoulders, flaring outward below for a swingy, loose fit.

- Bust: approx. 38 to 40 inches flat, to fit approx. 36-38. (Bust is a bit hard to measure due to extra deep arm openings). Fit me a somewhat loosely over several layers of clothing, at modern size 34B, for reference.
