Description

A late 1940s or early 1950s casual outerwear jacket, this double-breasted, boxy topper features big, squared shoulder pads, notched lapels, large patch pockets, and white shell buttons (1 row functional and 1 decorative). A small extra button and thread loop under the collar can be used to fasten the collar all the way up, if preferred. The plain weave red wool fabric is medium to light weight—more like a suit jacket than a winter coat. The hip-length, double-breasted jacket reminds me of a lighter-weight, preppy peacoat style, perfect for pairing with jeans or a plaid skirt in classic 1940s-50s collegiate fashion! The jacket’s bracelet-length sleeves fall straight from the padded shoulders to cuffs, where a row of 3 decorative buttons trims each. The straight hem has small slits at each side seam. A single row of topstitching trims the collar and the edges of the front opening. The jacket is lined with orange-red rayon taffeta. In good, sturdy and quite wearable condition, the wool jacket has scattered small moth munches, most of which have been carefully mended. See photos for the most noticeable of them—the 2 largest are at the front right shoulder. Freshly dry-cleaned and ready to wear, this true vintage 1940s-50s jacket has no other issues to note. Casualwear and/or sportswear items from this era can be harder to find, and this jacket is very versatile, in a great color!
