Description
This handknit, traditional Norwegian “lice-patterned” wool, circa 1930s or 1940s zip-front cardigan sweater combines dark heather grey and navy blue for a classic winter sportswear look! Originally a made as a men’s cardigan, this sweater will fit best on a modern men’s XS-S or women’s size S-M (see measurements). The heavyweight silver-tone mental zipper is stamped “Crown” The sweater has a high collar, but zips only to the bottom of it. The fitted hem and sleeve cuffs are wide bands of ribbed knit in plain navy blue. The inside of the collar and the inner edges of the zipper area are double-layered: a section of plain navy blue wool was knit along their edges and then folded over and sewn down by hand when the sweater was finished. The cardigan comes with matching hand-knit wool mittens in the same navy and grey pattern. They will fit approximately a modern women’s M to L. I am a glove size 7, and they fit me with some room to spare. The zip-front cardigan is in excellent condition, while the mittens are only very good, with some minor felting to the wool surface from normal use. All 3 piece of the set have been freshly dry-cleaned. I have shown the sweater and mittens paired up with my navy blue 1940s-50s ski pant, listed here. Size: women’s S-M or men’s XS-S.
- Chest: 35 inches flat and unstretched, stretching up to 40 max. Best fit for 38 or smaller.
- Waist/hem: 27 inches flat and unstretched, stretching up to 33 max.
- Length: 20 inches from back of neck to hem, when laid flat (shorter as worn).
- Underarm to hem: 12 inches when laid flat.
- Sleeve: about 22-23 inches (slightly dropped shoulder seams).
- Shoulder to shoulder: N/A (dropped shoulder seams).
- Mittens: unstretched they are 10.5 inches long from cuff to fingertip and 3.75 inches across palm.
