Description

This cream lace and off-white satin, mod 1960s mini wedding dress is a fun vintage bridal or bachelorette look! Crisp acetate (or acetate/rayon blend) floral lace is layered over an acetate satin under-layer. The illusion-style upper bodice and long sleeves with pointed hems are both unlined and sheer. The front section of the dress has an inverted V-shaped opening in the lace layer, with scalloped edges. A row of tiny satin-covered, decorative buttons trims the exposed satin under-layer, from the small bow below the round neckline to the above-the-knee hem. More tiny satin buttons trim the underside of the sleeves, under the pointed wrists. The slit openings in the sleeves actually fasten with small snaps, underneath the decorative buttons. In back, the dress features a larger-size satin bow which snaps over the metal zipper. Watteau-style, wide pleats extend down from the sheer back neckline to the hem. See my side view photo for the best view of how these back pleats hang—like a mini-train! The satin under-dress is shaped by diagonal darts from bust to hips. This under-dress is fairly straight in shape, widening just a few inches, from bust to hips. The somewhat stiff satin is lined with an off-white muslin-style fabric.

In very good condition, freshly dry-cleaned and ready to wear, this 1960s mini wedding dress is slightly yellowed around the hem of the lace layer, where a band of nylon “horsehair” stiffening braid finishes its underside. There is also a small scuff or mark on the surface of the satin layer at the left front waist area. This mark is hidden by the lace when the dress is worn. I have photographed it with the lace pulled aside, and in close-up, to show it better. This 1960s cream lace mini would make a wonderful registry-office wedding dress--or less-formal option for a bride who wants to dance and not worry about dealing with a long gown!
