Description
This Oleg Cassini mid-to-late 1960s mod men’s suit in black wool with red and blue-gray pinstripes includes a single button jacket and flat front trousers. The plain-weave pinstriped wool, in a traditional suiting fabric, medium weight is of very nice quality! The jacket ends at about mid-thigh, with a high, single button closure and a deep, single vent at the center back hem. The jacket shoulders are moderately padded and its notched lapels are a medium width, neither very narrow nor very wide. There are 6 pockets in the jacket: 3 external pockets and 3 internal ones. The red acetate taffeta jacket lining is woven with Oleg Cassini’s signature logo. The trousers have belt loops and close with a nylon zip fly and 2 metal hooks at the waistband. The straight legs have an unusual diagonal hem that is 2 inches longer in back than it is in front. This diagonal shape creates a subtle point at the center back hems. Perhaps the longer-in-back hem was designed to work well with the heeled Chelsea boots that were popular at the time. The pant has 2 frogmouth front pockets below the fitted, high waistband and 2 welted back pockets, 1 with a button closure. The center back waist and seat of the pant has been taken in slightly at some point (by a competent tailor). A few loose threads at the bottom of this alternation have now been removed, after I took these photos. The trousers have black polished cotton forming the inside of the pockets, as well as lining the inside of the waistband and fly. They are otherwise unlined.
In very good, totally wearable condition, this true vintage 60s suit has only a few minor issues to note: a bit of discoloration to the lining fabric only (not seen from the outside) at the edge of the underarms, the waistband/seat alteration mentioned above, and a teeny-tiny, pinhole-sized moth munch in the right thigh, which I have mended (see photos). Freshly dry-cleaned, the suit is ready to wear. A mod 1960s men’s suit in gorgeous pinstriped wool with a designer label—what’s not to love? I estimate the suit will fit a modern size medium, or around a 41 regular. Please check my detailed measurements for more info.

JACKET.
- Chest: 43.5 inches flat, to fit approx. 40 to 41.
- Waist: 41 inches flat at button, to fit up to 38 max.
- Sleeve length: 35 inches (26 from shoulder seam).
- Length: 32 inches from back of neck to hem.
- Shoulder to shoulder: 17 inches flat.
TROUSERS.
- Waist: 38 inches flat. Should fit up to 36-37 max, without alteration.
- Length outseam (waist to hem at side seam): 44.5 inches.
- Inseam: 32 inches.
- Rise: 13 inches in front and 18 inches in back, or 31 total.
- Width at thigh: 23 inches flat.
- Width at hem: 18 inches flat.
