Description
A pastel mint green early 1960s party dress, this confection combines layers of sheer, floral-embroidered nylon chiffon and matching pale green tulle to create its fitted bodice and full skirt. The scoop-neck bodice has short sleeves with curved, notched hems and curving seaming to shape the bust and waist. Below the fitted waist seam, the skirt is very full, with a trompe l’oeil apron effect at the center back where the embroidered chiffon curves open around a panel of plain chiffon. A huge bow trims the back waist—too cute! The sheer embroidered chiffon fabric of the bow and the front and sides of the skirt is backed with an attached layer of tulle which gives it more body and also more of a yellowed tone than the bodice, which is lined only with mint green acetate taffeta. The skirt actually has 3 total layers: the double outer layer of embroidered chiffon and tulle combined, then the taffeta lining, and then a 3rd layer of fluffy tulle (like an attached crinoline). There is 1 slightly yellowed, small area near the metal zipper at the center back of the bodice (see photo) which is unlikely to be noticed when the dress is worn. In very good condition, it has no other issues to note.
This princess-worthy pretty pastel green 1960s party dress is labeled a junior size XS (vintage size 11) and will fit best on a petite—you can see that my mannequin is a bit too tall for it. As a modern petite size 4 to 6, it was the proper length on me, but at least a size too tight. I estimate it will fit a modern XXS-XS petite, but please check the measurements for more details.
