Description
This patchwork paisley print orange-red and multicolor polyester maxi dress dates from the late 1960s or early 70s. Its Renaissance Faire ready styling includes a wide corset lace-up panel to cinch the waist, a gathered scoop neckline and a ruffled flounce at the hem. The bracelet-length sleeves are gathered into piping trim just above the wrist. The maxi-length skirt is gathered into the fitted waist, falling in soft folds to the ruffled hem. The mid-weight, plain weave polyester has a sheen to its front side, and does not stretch. The bright yellow acetate satin, corset waist panel extends from the underbust seam to the natural waist. Its fit can be adjusted slightly with the lacing. The skirt section of the dress is unlined, while the bodice is self-fabric lined, made from 2 layers of the bright red paisley print fabric. A metal zipper closes the dress in back. The dress has several minor flaws (see close-up photos): some dye bleed at the hem and on the left sleeve, and some minor pilling to the edge of the ruffled hem, probably from dragging on the floor when worn a bit too long. This late 1960s-70s hippie peasant-style or prairie dress in a bold print and color is in very good, quite sturdy and wearable condition. I would recommend either dry-cleaning or very carefully hand-washing the dress in future, to avoid any further dye bleeds. I hand-washed it with no issues, but it may be tricky!
