Description
A sapphire blue rayon velvet tilt hat from the late 1930s or early 1940s, this oval pillbox with back-of-head strap is designed to sit tilted forward on the head at a jaunty angle. The stiff mesh base is completely covered with gathered blue velvet fabric around a flat oval panel at the center of its small crown. The hat is lined in navy blue muslin, with a grosgrain ribbon inner band. The blue rayon taffeta head strap was once elasticized, but is now fully stretched out. This could be replaced, although depending on your head size it may fit fine as is—or could be pinned to the hair to keep it in place. In very good condition, the hat’s bright blue velvet may be slightly faded from age, although it still looks great! The already-mentioned, over-stretched back strap is the only other issue to note with this darling 1930s-1940s tilt hat.
