Dating to circa 1929-1930, this late flapper-era cloche hat has a flat-topped crown of black velvet and satin, trimmed with black grosgrain ribbon bows. The vertical section of the crown is plush black rayon velvet, and the flat, circular top is shiny black rayon satin. The ribbon trim encircles the entire crown, with several bows in front and one in back. The hat is lined with black rayon taffeta. In very good condition, the hat may have been home sewn, but its only real issues (other than its slightly amateurish construction) are some wear to the ribbon trim (most visible at the bow ends, in back), and some wear to the pile of the velvet, along edges of the crown opening. It appears sturdy and wearable—which is pretty impressive for a hat that is 90 years old! This late 1920s-early 1930s flapper cloche hat should pull down low on the head when worn, but please check the measurement for the inner circumference, to make sure that it will fit you well. It is slightly larger than typical hats of this era, approximately a ladies’ hat size 23.
