Description
This natural golden yellow Toquilla straw 1940s ladies’ Panama hat has an Optimo style crown with a center crease. Fun hat fact: Toquilla straw actually comes from Ecuador, not Panama. The snap brim can be turned up or down (I like it down, as shown). The brim is widest at the center front and narrowest at the center back. The flat-topped crown of the hat is encircled with a wide grosgrain ribbon band in 3 colors: golden yellow (a close match to the straw), leaf green, and bronze brown. The hat is unlined, with an inner grosgrain band. Labeled a size 22, or modern small, the hat fits nicely on my mannequin head and on my 21.5-inch circumference head, but will not fit well for a larger size unless worn tilted forward. This true vintage circa 1940s Panama straw ladies’ hat is in very good condition—great for its age! The pale yellow inner grosgrain band has some discoloration that will not be seen when the hat is worn. In addition, there is a tiny bit of fraying to the ends of the tri-color ribbon hatband bow in back, and there are a few pinholes in the label from the original owner’s use of hatpins.
