This black velvet 1980s cocktail dress is channeling 1950s style, with an over-the-top 80s flair! The racerback-style, sleeveless bodice has a sexy, crisscross low back, and a very slightly elongated/lowered waist seam. A flirty, gathered peplum extends from waist to hip, layered over the narrow skirt. The peplum is backed with white acetate satin, to match the big, rhinestone-trimmed bow at the front-left waist. The rayon velvet bodice section of the dress is lined with black acetate taffeta, while the skirt section is unlined. The dress fastens with a plastic zipper at the center back of the skirt, and a pair of large, flat metal hooks on the underside of the right shoulder strap. In good, totally wearable condition, the dress does have some dye transfer from the dark velvet onto the white lining of the peplum, which shows up as pale purplish streaks. These are not likely to be noticed when the dress is worn, and they are actually kind of pretty. There is also just a tiny hint of purple dye transfer on the inner edges of the lower parts of the white satin bow—quite hard to see, even in our close-up photo. This glamorous 1980s party dress has no other issues to note.
