Description
This early 1950s cropped suit jacket or blazer has the wasp-waisted silhouette associated with the New Look, a feminine, hourglass fit, in plush black wool or wool blend. The jacket’s wide shawl collar extends all the way down to the single silver metal rhinestone button at the natural waist. Darts shape the front bust and waist. The dolman sleeves are full at the top and taper to fitted wrists. The rounded shoulders are moderately padded. In back, the jacket has a full, blouson shape created by extra fabric and small pleats above the separate curved, fitted panel from waist to hem. The medium-weight, high-quality black fabric feels like a possible wool blend with cashmere: a bit softer and subtly more fluffy in texture than plain wool usually feels to the touch. The jacket is fully lined with rayon satin which has faded with age—not seen when worn. In very good condition, freshly dry-cleaned and ready to wear, this shorter-length early 1950s suit jacket will pair well with either pencil or a circle skirt, or wide-legged trousers. It could also be worn as a short evening jacket, over cocktail or formal attire. The jacket is approximately a modern small: just a bit too long and too large on me (modern 4-6 petite).
