This sophisticated black wool cocktail dress from the late 1950s features a fabulous mini-peplum in amber velveteen, lavishly trimmed with black glass beading, sequins, and braid! The bodice has the slightly blouson fit popular in the late 1950s, shaped by vertical seaming. The cap sleeves are cut in a diamond shape, best seen in our side view photos. The straight skirt is gathered into the front of the waist seam (which is hidden under the velvet and beaded trim). These gathers add a bit of fullness to the hip area, as seen in our photos. The dress is fully lined in black silk. It fastens in back with a metal zipper. This beautifully made 1950s cocktail dress has no label; perhaps it was removed by the original owner. It is in excellent condition, including the beaded trim. Our last photo shows the dress unpinned from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its somewhat unusual silhouette.
