Description

This “half-size” (curvy petite) late 1940s or early 1950s deadstock dress combines a purple and aqua leaves and flowers print on a white background with sharp black accents. Black banded trim finishes the cap sleeve hems and the top edges of the large patch pockets on the front of the skirt. A black patent vinyl belt cinches the waist. The V-neck bodice has a small collar and shoulder pads. Vertical darts shape the bust and waist, and there are several small pleats below the waist seam, above the pockets, to add fullness at the hips. The skirt is gently flared, but more straight than full in overall shape. Large black plastic buttons close the dress in front from neckline to hem. The lightweight, linen-textured fabric is probably a blend of rayon and acetate. It is unlined. My last 2 photos show the dress unclipped from the mannequin, to give a better idea of its actual size.

In excellent to mint condition, unworn, this late 1940s or 50s day dress has no flaws to note. It still has its original paper hangtag and size tag. The black patent belt has a small crease about midway along its length from being folded in storage—the only sign that this lovely dress is nearly 80 years old!
